Death: ‘witness’ story winner

Zanele Mkhwanazi (33) , winner of the Witness story competition in 2003, died unexpectedly on June 19 while waiting to be admitted to Edendale Hospital. The cause of her death was related to a complication as a result of a chronic anaemic condition that she had suffered from for more than five years. Mkhwanazi won the grand prize of R10 000 for her story about her grandmother, who was one of the last remaining bushmen living in the Drakensberg. Mkhwanazi had been a key member of the Edzimkulu project in Ndawana since its inception in 2003. She is survived by her son, Mhlengi, aged 10, three sisters and a brother.
