Delay in ANCYL’s plans to elect KZN leaders

2013-12-24 00:00

THE ANC Youth League’s provincial task team plans to convene a provincial conference to elect new leadership have been dashed.

Only two of the youth body’s regions in KZN have to date held their regional conferences as part of the preparations for an elective provincial congress.

The interim leadership of the league previously planned to take all their regions to conferences by the end of last month and then hold a provincial congress this month.

As at the weekend, only the Moses Mabhida region and the Greater Dukuza region had done so. Others still to hold their conferences include eThekwini, Emalahleni, Far North, Abaqulusi and Ukhahlamba.

Task team spokesperson Siboniso Duma confirmed yesterday that all regions would have to convene their conferences before the new provincial leadership was elected. He said the interim leadership would meet soon to decide on the dates of conferences for the remaining regions and also for the province.

The ANCYL in KZN has been without permanent leadership for almost two years after the national leadership under Julius Malema dissolved the provincial executive.

The task team that was appointed had battled to revitalise structures in the period leading to the ANC’s national congress in Mangaung due to differences connected to the party’s leadership battle.

The appointment of an interim national leadership for the league after Manguang has not helped either as it, too, formed interim committees for the KZN regional structures in Emalahleni, eThekwini, Far North and Abaqulusi regions.
