Delivering electrifying live performances

THE Maritzburg Musicians’ Club will be hosting performances by Kaiti Faul, who hails from Empangeni, and the rock band Avade at the Red Door on April 23.

Faul, an 18-year-old from the north coast, is an exciting and original talent. She writes and performs acoustic melodies, which she describes as “quirky and passionate”.

Avade is a three-piece rock band consisting of guitarist-singer Ross Meintjes, his brother Brendon on drums, and the recently appointed German-born producer and multi-instrumentalist Ruben Thomas on bass.

The band comes from the rather “un-rock ’n roll” suburbs of Pinetown and Winston Park, with the collective goal of putting both those areas on the music map.

Avade’s aim is to write great songs and deliver electrifying live performances. The band shows the world that trends come and go, but great songs and passionate live performances will never get old.

Primarily of a bluesy rock hue, all material is underpinned by the raw, unbridled roots of rock ’n roll.

Frontman Meintjies says: “We want every person in the audience to feel like they’re experiencing the musical equivalent of an orgasm. It’s all about excitement, and if you don’t leave the show as out of breath as we are, then we haven’t done our job properly.”

With Thomas on board, 2013 sees the band embarking on a new era, with a brand new EP titled P.A.I.D available for purchase at shows.

Tickets cost R30 and the evening starts at 8 pm at the Red Door in Pietermaritzburg.
