Deols in family drama

2008-02-01 00:00

The film is set against a backdrop of boxing and it looks quite convincing.

Baldev Singh Choudhary (Dharmendra) wins a silver medal in the Olympics, and dreams of becoming India's first world heavyweight boxing champion, but when he is falsely implicated in a dope scandal he goes into retirement with humiliation and resentment.

With a nomination by proxy, Baldev hopes his elder son Angad (Sunny Deol) will fulfil his dream of becoming champion. Angad also has a dream but boxing is not it. The younger son Karan is a musician and, in spite of wanting to fulfil his father's dream, he's helpless. Karan overcomes his physical disability and decides to don the boxing gloves to fulfil his father's dream.

This is followed by the struggle of two sons trying to restore their father's lost honour - full of emotion, electrifying confrontation scenes, conflict and familial bonding.

Dharmendra delivers a powerhouse performance and proves that at 72 he's still a magnificent actor. Sunny gives a restrained and mellowed performance - I am sure he didn't want to take the limelight away from dad. Bobby gives an improved performance from his last release. The leading ladies, Katrina Kaif and Shilpa Shetty, just add oomph.

Sharma has hit the bull's eye as he taps the emotive appeal of the film's simple story with utmost sincerity and heartwarming moments.

This film is rich in emotions and must be seen. Dharmendra is absolutely superb.
