Dept mum on why school feeding scheme tender adverts were withdrawn

2013-11-01 00:00

THE KZN Education Department has recalled a school nutrition programme tender advert published in various newspapers on Monday, after it emerged that it was never supposed to appear.

According to the department’s spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi, the adverts were withdrawn until further notice due to administrative issues that needed to be dealt with first.

He was tight-lipped about the issues.

“People who have paid/deposited money for the documents must keep the bank slips for they are still going to be valid in the near future when it’s re-advertised,” he said.

Mahlambi said this will not affect the school feeding programmes next year when schools re-open.

The province’s feeding scheme has been marred with controversy this year.

The department reduced the number of tenders and spread the benefits to suppliers by introducing co-operatives and reducing the number of pupils to 3 000 per service provider. But there are service providers who have been going over the threshold.
