Dept to advertise school tenders

2013-11-25 00:00

THE KwaZulu-Natal Education Department has now promised to advertise the new tenders for the 2014 school feeding scheme by November 28.

The promise was made at the high court on Friday, but disillusioned suppliers said they will “wait and see” what transpires as the department has already cancelled the process twice this year, in September and in October.

The group were involved in a high court application that was launched by 82 companies in April this year, to challenge the validity of the tenders that were awarded for the nutritional programme for the 2013 school year.

The case has not been removed from the court roll, and the suppliers said they want to be sure that the new tender process is fair and free of irregularities.

Their attorney, Sergie Brimiah, said on Friday it is sad that the children who are in need of nutrition have to suffer because of the department’s ineptitude.
