Descended from the first Indian arrivals in Natal? Share your story with ‘The Witness’

A HUNDRED and fifty years ago the first indentured labourers arrived from India to work in the fields of the Colony of Natal.

Their thousands of descen­dents have helped shape the identity of our province, and to honour this story we will be telling some of it over the next few months.

If your family’s roots can be traced to those first arrivals, we’d like to hear about it. It might be a tale of rags to riches or a memory of a hard start that has been passed down from one generation to the next.

It may be a story of a colourful relative or a modern account of tracing one’s origins back in India.
