‘Devil’: Man allegedly kills, skins four dogs

2012-01-16 00:00

A PRETORIA man who allegedly killed four dogs and skinned them was arrested in a raid on his garden flat.

During the raid at 10 pm on Saturday, police found the frozen bodies of the dogs were in a box under his bed.

Riaan Bester (22) allegedly confessed and showed police the still-bloodied knives he used to skin the dogs.

Two of the animals apparently belonged to the owner of the house in whose yard Bester’s flat is situated.

Bester will appear in court today charged with animal cruelty and malicious damage to property.

Police are investigating whether Bester intended to eat the dogs, and if he had already eaten some of them.

“The man is the devil himself,” said a person who was at the scene. “That’s how serial killers start.”

The woman Bester rented the flat from became suspicious when her dogs went missing and called police.

SPCA inspector Diale Ratsela, who removed the carcasses, said Bester’s parents told him the young man was treated for a psychological illness two years ago and was still emotionally disturbed. Ratsela said two of the dogs were eight-week-old lapdog puppies.
