Dhivesh’s 10 As were no surprise

EARLY preparation, sacrifice, dedication and the support of his family and the school — that’s what helped Dhivesh Dhewlall to achieve 10 distinctions in his final exams.

Dhewlall (18) of St Oswald’s High School in Newcastle will be moving to Pretoria later this month to study chemical engineering.

He told The Witness yesterday, he had worked hard on his exams and had been expecting at least nine or 10 distinctions.

“I expected that I would do well because I had worked extremely hard,” he added.

Dhewlall said his success was also partly due to the fact that the school made sure that he and his fellow matriculants did not fall behind during the public servants’ strike.

“My parents were also there, providing all the support I needed,” he added.

Dhewlall urged other students who did not make it to remain strong. “This is not the end of the road and they should go back and try again. They should remember that school is not the be all or end all.”
