Msunduzi Hospice Association will be hosting an oriental cooking demonstration by well-known chef Asha Maharaj at the Hospice Conference, 200 Zwartkop Road, Prestbury on August 18 from 11 am to 1 pm. Maharaj is a popular television personality who also writes the cooking column for the Sunday Times. Her cook books will be on sale with the proceeds going to Hospice. Tickets are R150 which includes tasting of sweets and savouries and an Eastern lunch menu. The dazzling showcase, Winds of Change, will be performed in the Playhouse Opera Theatre today at 7.30 pm to raise money to vaccinate children against cervical cancer. During the show the dancers will interpret sections of Astor Piazzolla’s magnificent Four Seasons (Cuatro Estaciones Portenas), before taking to the stage in fashion by The Platinum Group: Jenni Button, Hilton Weiner, Vertigo, Aca Joe and Urban Degree and performing with live singers and musicians. The World Methodist Conference will take place at the ICC in Durban until August 8. This assembly convenes every five years to bring together members of the worldwide association of churches in the Methodist/Wesleyan tradition. Participants in the Conference will gather under the theme "Jesus Christ - for the Healing of the Nations" and will experience African culture, hospitality and worship. On the afternoon of Sunday, August 7, there will be a street parade through the streets of Durban culminating at the Durban City Hall involving delegates and guests. Durban is hosting the internationally rated City of Durban Sunshine Tour show jumping event from today until August 13 at the Cyril Geoghegan Stadium. The event will feature the fourth leg of the 2011 FEI World Cup Jumping series (RSA League), the Epol KwaZulu-Natal Grand Prix and the City of Durban Show Jumping Championships, as well as a host of other events. The City of Durban Sunshine Tour will be split into two shows, with the first is between August 5 and 9 and the second between August 11 and 13. The first show will feature the City of Durban FEI World Cup Qualifier, whilst the second show will feature the Epol KwaZulu-Natal Grand Prix and the City of Durban Show Jumping Championships. The Sunshine Tour will also cater for all grades, from 1.10m to the top international level of 1.60m. Showjumping takes place from 8 am to 4.30 pm. Project Gateway in Pietermaritzburg is hosting the Coastal Hire Builder’s Charity Day at the Old Prison at 4 Burger Street on August 9. Divided into two events, the day begins by recognising women and the contribution and value they bring to society. This year’s theme is Women of Substance.
