Dig out that thermal underwear

2009-06-09 00:00

THE Drakensberg was transformed into a winter wonderland yesterday as snow fell on the high peaks, and just about everywhere else.

From the mountain tops to the rooftops, all wore a coat of icy white. Snow had been reported on the peaks of Champagne Castle and Sani Pass from as early as Sunday already.

In Harrismith, children and grown-ups alike travelling on the N3 could not resist the opportunity to pull over on the side of the road and, if not play with, then at least feel the snow.

Along the national road, many other towns near the Drakensberg experienced a snowflake or two.

But with the joys of snow, comes the not so joyous weather, not only for the Berg, but for most of the province too.

Pietermaritzburg will see a high of 18 degrees today, Giant’s Castle 13, and Durban 23 degrees.
