Disabled students graduate

2011-03-25 00:00

THE Vulamehlo Municipality, in conjunction with Athena Private FET College, will be hosting a graduation ceremony for 10 disabled people who were placed at municipal offices for a year.

The one-year placement programme saw the unemployed individuals engaging in experiential learning while studying for their diplomas.

The ceremony will be held at the Vulamehlo Municipal Hall today and Zime Gcaba, public relations officer with the Vulamehlo Municipality, says the event will be a memorable occasion.

“It means a lot to those who will be graduating and it will bring about a change in their lives.

“Many of them come from the rural areas where disabilities are frowned upon, which makes it even more difficult for them,” she said.

Gcaba added that the diploma would help to remove this stigma.

“Now they will be able to go out into the world with the qualifications that will allow them to get jobs,” she added.

“Tomorrow really will be a life-changing day for all of the graduates.”
