Doctors’ orders: Shenge must rest

2011-09-12 00:00

ALTHOUGH only family and close friends are allowed to visit hospitalised Inkatha Freedom Party leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi, his condition has significantly improved and he is expected to be released from hospital before Friday, his spokesperson, Liezel van der Merwe, told The Witness yesterday.

Buthelezi (83) was admitted to Empangeni Garden Clinic on Thursday after being diagnosed with fatigue.

Van der Merwe said Buthelezi’s doctors have found his condition significantly improved, but ordered that he must rest and not be allowed to receive visitors, except for close relatives and friends.

She denied unconfirmed reports that the IFP leader is also being treated for high blood pressure.

The IFP has no deputy leader, and in line with the party’s constitution the acting national chairperson, Dr Bhekisisa Mthethwa, is in charge of the affairs of the party when Buthelezi is unavailable.
