Dog chokes: SPCA makes appeal

2008-08-25 00:00

THE SPCA in Pietermaritzburg are appealing for anyone who may have information about a boerbul dog found strangled outside its premises yesterday to come forward.

It is believed that the dog strangled itself outside the SPCA's holding kennels.

It had been tied to a signpost with a thin nylon rope.

Senior SPCA inspector Jeanette Salzwedel, said: "We are so distressed É especially since we suspect that the dog was pregnant".

An SPCA staffer tried in vain to save the dog, she said.

"If anyone saw the dog while it was being tied up, they must please contact us," she said.

SPCA spokeswoman Maureen Vida urged people who find strays after hours to put them in the holding kennels outside the SPCA.

If the animal is ill or hurt, however, or if the kennels are full, phone the SPCA's emergency number - 083 627 1828.
