Dolphins field young side for clash with Knights

2011-03-23 00:00

The KZN Dolphins have named a much-changed and younger line-up to face the Knights at the Maritzburg Oval from tomorrow in a Supersport Series encounter.

Captain Imraan Khan will lead a side top-heavy with youth and experience, as the Dolphins wind down their season by giving a few players from the amateur ranks a look-in.

Seamer Keagan Eccles has had a productive season for the KZN Coastals, while leg-spinner Abdul Haq Razak will provide Khan with an attacking wrist-spinning option in the latter stages of the match.

There is also a call-up for 18-year old all-rounder Sumanth Sunkari, who is a KZN Schools cap. The Indian-born Sunkari has only made one appearance for the Coastals outfit, and will be vital for the side.

The Dolphins, losing semi-finalists in both the limited-overs competitions this season, are without the experience of Ahmed Amla, Loots Bosman and paceman Quinton Friend, and there will be much expected from the likes of David Miller, Daryn Smit and Vaughn van Jaarsveld.

KZN Inland paceman Brady Barends has also been rewarded for his fine season with a call-up, and he looks very likely to make his franchise bow on his home ground.

The Free-State-based Knights will certainly be no pushovers, and they will be led by Proteas all-rounder Ryan McLaren, who could just as easily have been in India with the national squad.
