Dolphins just two wins away from the big time

THE KZN Dolphins are just two wins away from the big-time, and they will go into Friday’s Pro20 Series first leg semi against the Warriors quietly confident of doing the business.

It has been a remarkable turnaround for the Dolphins, going from bottom in last year’s competition to top of the pops in this campaign.

The nerve-jangling win over the Lions on Sunday to secure top spot — and home advantage in the third leg semi if it is required — was in keeping with the way the Dolphins do things.

It seldom is easy, but this season’s campaign has seen them finish on the right side of the line enough times to end top of the table.

The crunch, however, comes now and the Dolphins will be looking to raise their game by a few notches to get into the final, which also means entry into the lucrative Champions League later this year.

The Warriors will be no pushovers, though the Dolphins did beat them in East London in the round-robin stages.

Mark Boucher, for one, was particularly irked by the rain delay that saw the Dolphins regain their composure, and the nuggety veteran will be looking to put a few things right.

The Warriors have plenty of match-winning pedigree, but the Dolphins have shown their assortment of young stars, big bashers and dibbly-dobblers have the necessary amount of tenacity to hold their own.

The Dolphins visit the Warriors this Friday for the first-leg semi, while the Cobras and Titans meet in the other semi on Sunday.

The Dolphins then host the Warriors in the return semi next Friday (March 4).

It has been a long road, but Graham Ford’s charges know they are two big performances away from the big time.

Dolphins squad:

Imraan Khan (Captain), David Miller, Devon Conway, Vaughn van Jaarsveld, Ahmed Amla, Loots Bosman, Daryn Smit, Kyle Abbott, Jon Kent, Keshav Maharaj, Yasir Arafat, Mthokozisi Shezi and Chad Fortune.
