Dolphins looking for one more kick

THE Dolphins, fresh from a major upset win, are licking their lips at the prospect of a domestic final on Friday night.

Their back-to-back wins over the Titans have re-ignited a campaign that was starting to take on a depressingly similar tone to seasons past, and now they know they have as good a chance as ever to re-decorate their trophy cabinet.

“It’s a one-off game, so you never know,” said captain Imraan Khan at yesterday’s voluntary practice.

“The guys did exceptionally well in a game that we were expected to lose, and now we just have to carry that form into Friday,” he added.

Certainly, the Dolphins top order will be looking for a similar display to last Sunday’s, with Hashim Amla and Loots Bosman’s opening stand again crucial.

Bosman last night told The Witness that he couldn’t wait to take part in his first final for the Dolphins, and he is also hoping for a repeat of last Sunday’s antics.

“Jeez, the ball was dancing around last week at Centurion, but Hash and I saw it through and I hope we can do the same against another strong attack,” the free-scoring Bosman said.

Thriving in his role at the top of the order, Bosman may be finding his best form just in time for the final — and the start of next week’s Pro20 series.

“Obviously that is in our minds, but for now the focus is on performing well on Friday.”

Another Dolphin eager to impress is young David Miller, who has contributed mightily in the early part of the campaign, but has failed to build on some promising starts of late.

“It would be great to finish off strong, and hopefully Friday night is the night that I can get a big one,” he said.

Miller’s fielding has become just as vital for the Dolphins, with his fine catch to dispose of Albie Morkel a major turning point in the semi-final.

“It’s important that us non-bowlers help out the team in other areas, and I was really chuffed to hang on to that one,” he enthused.

The Dolphins, with momentum and some form, will hope that everything sticks come Friday night’s lights.
