Dolphins need big effort in Benoni

2008-01-10 00:00

THERE is no other way but a win for the KZN Dolphins in their SuperSport Series cricket match against the North-East Titans in Benoni.

Today’s start will signal virtually the last chance for the Dolphins to stay in the SuperSport Series race. Granted, the Dolphins may be in second place at present, but log leaders the Free State/Griquas Eagles are looking unlikely to be caught going into the last three matches of the competition this month. Unless, that is, the Dolphins get their act together.

A demoralising loss to the Western Cape Cobras was downplayed by Dolphins captain Ahmed Amla and coach Yashin Ebrahim. “One of those games where nothing went right” was their assessment of the debacle.

And while The Witness was told this week by Dolphins CEO Cassim Docrat and chief of selectors Jay Naidoo that the name of the new head coach would only be made public today or tomorrow, their lack of urgency would suggest that Ebrahim has already been given the job.

KZN Dolphins: Doug Watson, Imraan Khan, Wayne Madsen, Ahmed Amla (capt), Kyle Smit, Khaya Zondo, Daryn Smit, Johann Louw, Ross McMillan, Quinton Friend, Saidi Mhlongo, Nicholas Hewer.

Other fixtures: Eastern Cape Warriors vs Eagles (Port Elizabeth); Highveld Lions vs Cobras (Potchefstroom).
