Dolphins rack up third win to stay unbeaten

2012-01-07 00:00

THE Sunfoil Dolphins are the only unbeaten team at the SA Cubs Franchise week being played in Stellenbosch, after winning their third match against the Chevrolet Knights on Thursday.

The Bizhub Highveld Lions, who had won their first two games, lost against the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras, whom the Dolphins had beaten on day two.

The highest score on day three was posted by the Dolphins, after three half centuries scored by Sumanth Sunkari (75), Chad Bowes (69) and Jared van Heerden (68), took them to 252 for seven in their allotted 50 overs.

Sunkari and Van Heerden shared a 121-run partnership for the fourth wicket, after Bowes had earlier got them off to a good start. Johan van Dyk was the pick of the opposition bowlers taking three wickets for 44.

It was the turn of the Dolphin spinners, Prenelan Subrayen and Sahil Bissoon to do most of the damage, with six wickets between them, to have the Knights all out 74 runs short of their target. Vasili Orros (47) and Diego Rosier (46), named as “Player of the Week” at the recent Khaya Majola Week, were the only two batsmen to get the scoreboard ticking.

The Lions were rocked back after Cobras bowler Jan Frylinck got rid of four of the top order batsmen, including Quinton de Kock who had been devastating with the bat the previous day. Cobra’s captain Grant Edmeades polished off the lower order, capturing four wickets.

Edmeades and David Beddingham then added an unbroken 118 runs for the third wicket to win the game.

Lesiba Ngoepe was again in the runs for the Titans in their victory over the Warriors.

Top score of the day was made by Titan JP Kok, who made 77.
