Dolphins to miss Loots in cup clash

2011-11-23 00:00

DOLPHINS hard-hitter Loots Bosman has not completely recovered from his hamstring injury, and may not start for the Dolphins in their One Day Cup match against the Titans at Kingsmead tonight.

Vice-captain Daryn Smit told The Witness that although there has been no official word from medical staff, the prognosis does not look good.

“Bosman had some time in the middle at practice today and he was hitting the ball really well. But he didn’t run at all today,” said Smit.

He added that this is a big blow to the team as Bosman leaves a “void” in the top order, but pointed out that this gives other players an opportunity to step up to the plate.

More bad news for the team is that Ahmed Amla is not likely to play until January as he recovers from a torn muscle.

After an absence of almost two months, Protea players have been released to their franchises so Hashim Amla and Imran Tahir may play their first game in the tournament.

But this means that Jacques Rudolf, Morné Morkel and AB de Villiers will also be available for the Titans.

Smit added that Faf du Plessis is a major threat. “He has scored two centuries in the tournament already and he will be a key player for the Titans. If we are to win the game we need to get him out early,” he said.

The Dolphins have had three of their matches in the tournament so far interrupted by rain.

Adding that this is a crucial week for the Dolphins, Smit said they would like to end the week, which sees them play three games in five days, with at least two wins.

After the Titans, the Dolphins travel to Potchefstroom to take on the Lions on Friday before returning to Pietermaritzburg to take on the Knights.
