A DOMESTIC worker who plotted with her boyfriend and his friend to hold up her employers and rob them in Northdale in August, pleaded guilty and was sentenced in the regional court in Pietermaritzburg last week to eight years’ imprisonment, part of which may be converted to correctional supervision.

Regional magistrate Paul Ableman ordered that Fikile Cynthia Ndlovu (22) must serve at least two years in prison before being considered for correctional supervision.

Ndlovu described in a statement to court how she helped her boyfriend, Mhlethuli Sibisi, and his friend, Fana Makathini, to gain entry to the home of her employer, Ahmed Ismail, on August 19. During the robbery she acted the part of a person being robbed and was tied up and gagged along with Ismail, his wife and daughter.

The robbers stole R6 000, three cellphones, one cordless phone and jewellery while the occupants of the house were locked in the bathroom.

Ndlovu said a couple of days before the robbery Sibisi and Makathini visited her.

“They asked me how long I had been working for the complainant and whether the complainant kept money at his home. I replied that according to my observation they do keep money at the home. They advised me that they want to rob the complainant and they asked for my assistance by providing them with certain information … I agreed to do so.”

She said that on the day arranged for the robbery to take place they phoned her and she told them “all was in order and the only people present were the complainant, his wife and their daughter. I agreed to leave the door unlocked.

“About an hour later … I was suddenly confronted by Makathini … as previously arranged. I acted the part of a person being robbed and he pushed me down and tied my hands up and put tape across my mouth. I was then pushed into the bathroom where [Ismail], his wife and daughter had also been tied up and gagged by … Sibisi. While we were locked in the bathroom they proceeded to steal the complainant’s belongings.”
