Domestics: Review of wages

2008-06-24 00:00

STAKEHOLDERS within the domestic sector have until July 31 to make their final inputs in relation to the review of domestic worker wages and conditions of employment.

Among the inputs at public hearings are:

• Wages should increase by the inflation rate plus two percent on December 1, and at the same rate for three years.

• The standby allowance should be increased from R20 to R50 per shift.

• There should be a provision for a transport allowance, given increased transport costs.
