Double the dirty trouble at Greytown Classic

2008-05-23 00:00

THE Fox Greytown MTB Classic formed part of the Dirty Double National Series and included a 65 km marathon course last Saturday, as well as the standard Classic and Intermediate events on the Sunday.

Up country riders Dana Coetzee and Johan van Zyl worked together to dominate both events with Coetzee taking both wins in a sprint finish from Van Zyl. Pietermaritzburg riders Michael Smith and Willie Brink placed a tie third in the 65 km.

The first women home was none other than the talented Tania Raats, while Julia Colvin placed second and Corinne du Sart third.

Saturday’s 65 km Marathon saw Robyn Ardendorff dominate the women’s race ahead of Jenny Soutar and Glynis Pretorius.

The 25 km Intermediate event was won by Rolf Anderson and Natalie Unstead respectively. Luke Dinkel continued to set the standards in the sub-junior series with a solid win ahead of Liam Mooney and Dylan Kirby.

Known for it’s picturesque setting at Lake Merthley, the Greytown Classic has become one of the oldest and most enjoyed Classic’s on the calendar and has continued to evolve with a course that is now rated as one of the favourites.
