Down Under: Sharks call up teenager

WITH the delay in the return to full fitness of backrow forward Jean Deysel, Sharks XV No. 8 Marcell Coetzee (19) is flying out to boost the Sharks on their four-match tour Down Under.

Springbok sevens wing Mark Richards, replacement for JP Pietersen, is joining the Sharks who play the Rebels today and then meet the Chiefs and the Crusaders in New Zealand.

The young Port Natal High School product, who has been selected for the SA U20 squad, is a member of the Sharks Academy and has aided the Sharks XV in their two Vodacom Cup wins this season, scoring two tries against the Blue Bulls and the Welwitchias.

Said Sharks XV coach Sean Everitt, “Marcell has had a really good run so far and he’s been a deserved man of the match in both our games to date. He’s really been a strong ball-carrier for us and we’re going to miss him. I think he has a great future ahead of him; he’s still learning but he is certainly a stand-out player for us …”
