Draw after Harmer’s fifer haul

2013-11-25 00:00

SIMON Harmer took a five-wicket haul before the Warriors and Knights Sunfoil Series match ended in a draw on the fourth day of their clash in East London yesterday.

Off-spinner Harmer captured 5-92 off 44 overs as the Knights were bowled out for 284 in their second innings at the end of an extended second session.

Johan van der Wath struck an unbeaten 77 off 146 deliveries, which included six fours and three sixes, his 21st first-class fifty, as the Knight set the Warriors 210 to win in the final session with about 30 overs left in the match.

However, the captains decided to shake hands after the tea break to settle on a draw as neither team believed a result was possible.

The Warriors had taken a strong grip on the match during the morning session, with Harmer at the heart of a mini-collapse that saw the visitors lose three wickets in as many overs for the addition of just one run.
