Draw for mixed pairs complete

THE draw for the District Mixed Pairs has been done with 69 pairs entering this year, drawn into seven sections. East Griqualand will enter the competition at this quarter-final stage to be played at Maritzburg West on June 28.

The winners of this competition will be entered in the Bowls South Africa Mixed Pairs Tournament to be held in Port Alfred in August as the Inland representatives.

Entry fees obtained from this competition will be used to assist the two players who win the competition with their expenses.

The scheduled starting time for play is 9 am on June 28 and no later than 1.30 pm on Sunday afternoon.

With the increased number of entries this year not enough rounds were allocated in the fixture book to accommodate the entire competition so the finals will now be on July 5.

The aggregate cup points for senior men and women after the completion of the senior singles and trips are:

Women: Anne Ramsay (Collegians) seven points; Suzanne Nicolle, Doreen Paviour, Sheila Peech (Collegians) all on six points; Caryl Hickinbotham (Wes) five points; Marion Beater (Maritzburg) Nanette Foss (Collegians), Barbara James Howick, Wendy Radcliffe and Geraldine van Rooyen (Maritzburg) all on four points,


Men: Phillip Scholtz (Maritzburg) 11 points; Dennis Lariviere (Howick) eight points; Wilfie Brown (Lynwood) seven points; Derek Beater and Dick Wood (Maritzburg) six points; Lionel Holder (West), Michael Andrew and Gerald Wilde (Howick) all on four points.

The Kingfisher Mixed Pairs which will commence onJuly the 5. The closing date for entries is the June 5 and the Kingfisher Men and Women’s Trips will take place from July 26th. Entires must be in by June 26.

Bowls South Africa have announced with regret the death of Willie Matthee who served bowls as a national selector for 20 years.
