Dreaming to be a doctor: Howick pupil wins Shoprite 2010 contest

HER passion to be a doctor someday so that she can heal the sick and educate them about HIV and Aids inspired Nomvelo Mnikathi (10) of Howick West Primary School to enter the popular Shoprite “Class of 2010” competition.

The annual competition allows pupils from all over the country who attend a government school to write about what they want to become after matric. Its aim is to encourage pupils to pursue education after matric, and Shoprite pays a year of the winner’s school fees.

Nomvelo won a cheque worth R800 to pay her school fees.

“I am working very hard at school to achieve my dream of becoming a doctor and owning my own hospital. I also want to help sick people and find a cure for HIV and Aids,” said Mnikathi.

Ranjith Teeluk, Shoprite Howick store manager, presented Mnikathi with the cheque last week. “We are thrilled to be able to assist such a determined young lady and we wish her every success for her future plans,” said Teeluk.
