Driver ‘serious’ after bakkie hits pillar

2011-04-14 00:00

A 67-YEAR-OLD man had a narrow escape after crashing his Corsa bakkie into the pillar of the Blackburrow bridge on the N3 southbound near Scottsville yesterday.

The vehicle was found in the median of the road and the driver seated in the bakkie’s load bin. “The man was examined by the emergency personnel. He suffered a neck and back injuries. He was placed on a specialised board and transported to Pietermaritzburg Medi-Clinic in a serious but stable condition,” ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said. With the force of the crash the bakkie rebounded across the freeway into the median.

“The driver was able to climb out the back window before the emergency personnel arrived on the scene … the police are still investigating,” said Banks. — Witness Reporter.
