Drought affecting plant sales

2014-10-10 00:00

DURBAN nursery owners said customers were thinking twice about spending money on plants given the low rainfall levels the province was experiencing.

They said if the situation continued, they may be forced to close shop.

Botha’s Hill-based Green Fingers Nursery owner Nadia Redgrave said customers had been reluctant to buy plants, because they had not had rain. “They don’t want to waste their money because plants will die. There is not much we can do about it. The weather is an animal of its own,” she said.

Redgrave said it had not been easy, as customers were not buying.

Westville-based Plants A Plenty owner Tracey Ridsdale was worried the city would impose water restrictions, which would negatively impact on the business’s daily operations.
