Drowned: Boy and father tied together

2013-03-04 00:00

THREE people — one of them a nine-year-old boy — have drowned in KwaZulu-Natal’s beaches over the weekend.

On Saturday, the boy, together with his father, were pulled out of the water at La Mercy. They were strapped together when they were found, said Netcare911 spokesperson Chris Botha.

“Paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the two had been pulled from the surf … tragically they had died before our arrival,” said Botha.

Another man believed to be in his 20s drowned on the Durban beachfront yesterday evening.

“Reports came in from a fisherman that they spotted a man floating in the surf near Joe Cool’s,” said Botha.

“Netcare911 rescue unit and the lifeguards entered the surf and pulled the man onto the beach, tragically, the man had died before our arrival,” he said.

Police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker was not aware of the incidents yesterday. — WR.
