Drowning: toddler dies in Bluff swimming pool

2011-05-16 00:00

A THREE-YEAR-OLD boy drowned in a swimming pool Durban’s Bluff on Sunday morning.

Netcare911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks said the boy had been pulled out of the swimming pool by a relative who began cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

The family bundled the boy into a car to take him to a medical facility, said Wicks.

“He had been immersed for an unknown period of time.

“Paramedics managed to rendezvous with the panicked family en route and initiated care. The boy was intubated and placed on a manual ventilator at the scene by medics, while CPR was performed.”

However, the paramedics were unable resuscitate the boy and he was declared dead at the scene.

The cause of the incident and series of events leading up to it remain unclear and will be investigated, Wicks said.
