Dry taps: PMB explains

2014-06-21 00:00

TWO Pietermaritzburg suburbs on opposite ends of the city found themselves without water yesterday.

Msunduzi spokesperson Thobeka Mafumbatha said Chase Valley was without water because of a burst pipe in Silverdale Crescent that affected the immediate vicinity. Water was restored by the afternoon.

Mafumbatha said Northdale was affected by a shutdown at the city’s main reservoir situated in Claridge. This was in order to install a water meter for monitoring purposes.

“The shutdown was scheduled to start at 11 pm and be completed by 4 am so as not inconvenience residents, however, the process took longer than anticipated due to complications during the installation process,” she said.

The work had been completed by 10.30 am and the pipes filled up gradually. Parts of Northdale had their water restored by midday and others later in the afternoon.
