Dube TradePort: Persad not off the hook just yet

2012-08-22 00:00

THE head of the Dube TradePort, Rohan Persad, who resigned under a cloud, will not necessarily be off the hook as the matter has been referred to the anti-corruption task team.

The CEO quit amid allegations that he received kickbacks from a company that operated a cargo terminal at Durban’s King Shaka International Airport.

The KZN Cabinet said yesterday it has given full support to the decision of the board to refer the matter to the anti-corruption task team.

The team ensures that every cent that may have been misappropriated is recovered.

KZN Premier Zweli Mkhize said: “We appreciate the work that has been done by the board so far. We look forward to the finalisation of all the investigations in this matter in order to ensure uninterrupted efficiency of operations at Dube TradePort which is a jewel in the crown of the province of KwaZulu-Natal.

“As Cabinet, we have encouraged the board to recruit a new chief executive officer and bring this matter to a speedy conclusion.”
