Duo take over deteriorating garden centre premises

2011-07-08 00:00

GREG Dowsett and Gareth-John Keough are determined to take their philosophy of customer-focused garden landscaping into their new venture running a garden centre.

The pair, who together make-up Dowsett & Keough Landscapes, have taken over the old Eden Garden Centre in Warwick Road, Pietermaritzburg (Montrose), and say they are committed to “being on the frontline” of the business.

The two will also be taking across the strong brand of Dowsett & Keough Landscapes to their new venture, Dowsett & Keough Garden Centre (DK Garden Centre).

“We are well established locally in the garden design sector and we’re taking that reputation across to retail,” Keough says.

“The landscaping side of the business will remain, however. We’re just looking to develop it within a retail setting.”

Keough says they began talks to take over the premises after watching the site deteriorate over the past few years.

“We’re go-getters and we want this place to go back to the way it was in it’s heyday. To do that it needs to be owner-driven and that’s what we’ll be offering,” he says.

Customers will see a marked difference in the look of the garden centre.

Paving, pots and plants are being brought in from regular suppliers to Dowsett & Keough Landscapes, and seedlings have been moved to a new location.

The idea is to encourage visitors to wander around the whole site.

Lee Hankey, who runs the Flavour Coffee Shop, is remaining on site, along with Modern Methods and a number of exciting new lifestyle and boutique shops that are being set up in the centre.

“We want the centre to have a lifestyle feel,” says Keough.

The Dowsett & Keough Garden Centre will be officially launched during the first week and weekend in August and garden lovers can look forward to a range of good promotions and specials.
