THE second day in Potchefstroom at the U19 Khaya Majola Week saw much improved batting, with two centuries scored and three bowlers capturing five or more wickets.

Blake Schraader (Nelspruit HS) scored an undefeated 85 in just 28 balls in Mpumalanga’s second innings to give his side a nine-wicket victory against Limpopo.

One of the centuries was scored by Gideon Bruwer (Noordkaap), who made 128. The next best score was 26 and all other nine players scoring just 33 runs between them against KZN Inland. This was in reply to 216 for six declared by Inland.

Greg Oldfield (Michaelhouse) just missed being the week’s first century scorer when he was caught on 99.

Dean Robinson (St Charles), with 55, was the other mainstay in the batting. It was two Maritzburg College lads who caused the downfall of nine of the Griquas players. Daryn Dupavillon captured six wickets, with four bowled as he ended with six for 27 off 13 overs. His scalps included Diego Rosier (Noordkaap), the SA U19 player and Player of the Week in 2011.

Sohail Mahmoud followed up his six wickets on the first day with another three in this game. KZN Coastals lost to WP on the first innings.

Kearsney’s SA School’s player Craig Kirsten took five wickets in the WP total of 204. Coastals’ batting (116) let them down, with Kyle Simmonds (Westville) featuring with 40.
