Durban Girls’ College on top of their game

2014-02-25 00:00

IN the pool and on the indoor hockey arena, Durban Girls’ College produced the goods, with both teams riding high at the top of their games.

The first hockey team, ably led by Michelle Alborough and put through their paces by coach Bell Meek, took top spot in the indoor hockey league, beating Maris Stella 6-1, Kloof High School 7-0, Durban Girls’ High 9-0, Westville Girls’ High 5-0, Danville 7-1 and St Mary’s 3-1 in claiming the honours.

The school’s swimming team started the year firing on all cylinders with a fourth consecutive win at the National All Girls’ Aquatics in East London.

From the first gun, Durban Girls’ College took proceedings by the scruff of the neck, never finishing off the podium in any of the races. When the water stilled, they had 17 firsts, seven seconds and four third places to their credit.

They topped the standings with 490 points, followed by St Mary’s Waverley on 366 points, Eunice College on 362 points and Oranje Meisies on 322 points.
