2010-12-27 00:00

POLICE in Durban have issued a warrant of arrest for a Pietermaritzburg man suspected of involvment in the theft of R80 000 from a Durban businessman last week.

The businessman has asked to remain anonymous.

SA Police Force spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane confirmed that police are investigating an allegation that a Pietermaritzburg man, Mobeen Essa, was given a lift by the businessman — whom he knew — last Wednesday afternoon.

Essa allegedly asked the businessman to take him to a flat in Sparks Road in Overport to fetch his asthma pump. After Essa alighted from the car a woman approached the vehicle and knocked on the driver’s window.

Whilst the businessman was distracted, two men — one of whom was believed to be Essa — allegedly removed a sum of R80 000 which was hidden under the car seat before fleeing on foot.
