Durban crash victim’s hand amputated

2013-09-23 00:00

A WOMAN in her 30s had to have her hand amputated on Saturday after an accident between a taxi and a car on Sarnia Road in Seaview, Durban.

ER24’s Werner Vermaak said 15 other passengers sustained various injuries in the collision.

Paramedics found several occupants were flung from the taxi from the impact. Injured passengers from the taxi were treated on the scene and taken to a nearby hospital. Some of the occupants sustained fractures and possible spinal injuries.

The driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries and was assessed on the scene before he was also taken to hospital.

Garrith Jamieson from Rescue Care Paramedics, who was also called to the scene, said they found that the taxi had collided with a vehicle before rolling several times and landing on its side. Bystanders allegedly pushed the taxi back on its wheels to assist people trapped in the wreckage.
