Durban cricket clubs eye semi-final berths

2008-11-07 00:00

THE heat is on as clubs go into the third round of the KZN Coastal Premier 45 competition tomorrow.

With just two rounds to go after tomorrow, the Premier League teams are jockeying for position to get the top two spots in each of Pool A and Pool B, thereby qualifying for the semi-finals in three week’s time and the dream of a berth in the 45-over final on December 7.

Tomorrow’s pick in Pool A looks to be the Chatsworth United/Pinetown match at Tills Crescent. Unbeaten United thumped African Warriors by seven wickets last time out, while Pinetown drilled Durban Collegians by 108 runs.

The one to watch in Pool B is a toss-up between the Crusaders/Topham clash at ‘Saders or under-performing Chatsworth Sporting versus high-riding Delta at Chatsworth Oval.

League newcomers and surprise packages Topham were shaded by just three runs by Delta last weekend, while favourites ‘Saders predictably beat one of the most disappointing sides this season, Amanzimtoti, by six wickets.

Sporting lost to Tertiary by 12 runs and will be desperate to break their duck in this competition, but have a huge task ahead against Delta.

Pool A: Dbn Collegians vs Dawnheights (Collegians); Chatsworth United vs Pinetown (Tills Crescent); Berea Rovers vs African Warriors (Rovers).

Pool B: Tertiary vs Amanzimtoti (Hammond Field); Chatsworth Sporting vs Delta (Chatsworth Oval); Crusaders vs Topham (Crusaders Oval).
