ADVICE on providing service excellence, effective financial accounting, as well as setting and maintaining high financial standards and controls will be shared when municipal finance officers meet in Durban at the end of the month.

The eThekwini Metro with partners Standard Bank and PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC), will be hosting the Institute of Municipal Finance Officers (Imfo) 84th annual conference from September 30 to October 2 at the Durban ICC.

Speakers include Public Protector Advocate Thuli Madonsela, deputy auditor-general Kimi Makwetu, and KZN MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nomusa Dube.

The Imfo conference provides a platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas, knowledge, best practices and products for service excellence and maximum financial performance. Imfo president Louise Muller says the focus is on ensuring that local government is supported in implementing and maintaining financial viability.

eThekwini Mayor James Nxumalo will welcome the delegates.

Through Imfo, municipal finance officers gather to form a professional body with an authoritative representative voice, promoting the profession of the municipal finance officer, furthering the cause for sustainable municipal finances and influencing the legislative and accounting environment that will enhance the opportunity to create sustainable and viable municipalities.
