Durban to host World Hindu Economic Forum

2014-06-09 00:00

THE World Hindu Economic Forum 2014 will be held in Durban from July 19 to 20, a statement said.

Four hundred delegates from all over the world from various business sectors are expected to attend — the primary theme is “Making Africa Prosperous”.

South African Hindu Maha Sabha president Ashwin Trikamjee said yesterday they had heard about the conference and that it would be focused mainly on commercial matters.

Although the Maha Sabha’s own enquiries about the conference were not yet replied to by conference organisers, it was unlikely that the Maha Sabha would participate as it focuses on Hindu culture and religion, said Trikamjee.

Topics at the forum include business networking, strategy, Hindu principles for wealth creation and empowerment of Hindu women in business. The aim is to “make society prosperous through the generation and sharing of surplus wealth”.

Rajan Zed, president of Universal Society of Hinduism, said delegates should take a vow to undertake at least one charitable project this year. Zed stressed that charity was a duty, which should be undertaken with sympathy and modesty.

Dr Ragnish Singh, one of the organisers, said in a statement: “We are hosting the World Hindu Economic Forum for the first time in southern Africa”.

Participants include leaders, industry captains, practitioners, experts, academics, top executives, managers, professionals and decision makers.
