Dux robbed of early celebration

A MARITZBURG College matriculant was disappointed by a printing error that occurred on his results in the paper, which stated that he only got seven As for the eight subjects that he studied, when in fact he aced all of them.

Akhil Ramanundh (18), who was the school’s 2008 Dux, told The Witness that when he went to fetch his statement of results at school, he was relieved when the principal told him he got As for all his subjects.

Akhil will enroll for a degree in Actuarial Science at the University of Cape Town.

“Although I was a bit nervous, I am now relieved that it is over and I am now looking forward to be a varsity student,” he said.

His father, Rahen, said that when his son received a call saying that he had got seven distinctions, he was also a bit upset because Akhil has always been an over-achiever.

Akhil’s younger sister Riona is also an academic achiever as she obtained a scholarship to study at Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School.

Rahen said: “… both our children are hard-working and intelligent, and I would say they resemble their mother, Anitha, who is an educator”.
