EFF demand special Zuma session

2015-01-13 00:00

CAPE TOWN — The speaker of the National Assembly Baleka Mbete is “considering” a request from Julius Malema for a special parliamentary sitting where President Jacob Zuma can answer questions.

Mbete’s spokesperson Mandlakazi Sigcawu yesterday said the speaker has received the EFF’s request and the matter is being considered.

His office will respond to the EFF at “a suitable time”.

City Press reported Malema had demanded in the letter that the speaker must call an urgent meeting by the National Assembly, before parliament reopens on February 12, so that Zuma can finish the interrupted session of verbal questions.

The EFF threatened in the letter to interrupt the president’s State of Nation address if Mbete refuses the party’s request.

Zuma has not been back in the assembly since he was escorted out in August last year while EFF members chanted “Pay Back The Money” and hammered on their desks.
