Easter tragedies: 5 die in KZN accidents

2012-04-07 00:00

IN the Easter traffic rush, a Gauteng mother and her daughter (11) died at the N3 Camperdown off-ramp yesterday morning when the car they were in crashed into a broken-down truck.

Fire department spokesperson Mark Raymond said the driver apparently took the off-ramp, but realising he had made a mistake, drove back onto the N3 and into the truck. The driver is in a critical condition at Grey’s Hospital and two other children were taken to St Anne’s hospital. The truck driver was not hurt.

In an accident near the Peter Brown Drive offramp a truck driver died and the highway lane was closed for much of the afternoon.

On the N3 near the Pavillion yesterday evening, a pedestrian was hit by a car and killed while crossing the westbound lane. In Richmond, a pedestrian was killed in Shepstone Street yesterday.
