Eco Hero: Extreme swimmer to talk in city

2011-01-21 00:00

LEWIS Gordon Pugh, who was named a 2010 Young Global Leader for swimming in extreme conditions around the world to raise environment awareness, will be in Pietermaritzburg for a breakfast at Golden Horse Casino next month.

The breakfast will be open to members of the public at 8am on February 11 at a cost of R150.

Besides being an environmentalist, Pugh is a maritime lawyer and motivational speaker. He was the first person to complete a long distance swim in every ocean.

He does this to draw attention to the plight of vulnerable ecosystems. He has swum in a glacier lake below Mount Everest and at the North Pole. The World Economic Forum gave him the global status for contributing to shaping the future of the world through inspiring leadership. The proceeds from the breakfast will be donated to The Wilderness Leadership School. — WR.
