Edendale: Girl (11) strangled, body dumped in bush

2009-05-04 00:00

An 11-year-old girl was strangled and her body dumped in the bushes in the Edendale area on Sunday evening.

Police said yesterday there is a strong possibility that she was raped before she was killed.

SAPS spokesman Senior Superintendent Henry Budhram said the girl disappeared from her home on Sunday afternoon.

“The community had searched the area, and this morning came across the body in the nearby bushes.”

He said forensic tests will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the girl’s death and whether she was raped.

Police would not release the girl’s name yesterday.

Budhram said the police are searching for a known suspect.
