Edendale: Two shot dead after armed men storm house

2011-06-07 00:00

TWO young men were shot dead at point-blank range after being assaulted in their home in Edendale, Pietermaritzburg, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

It is alleged that Khethukuthula Mkhize (22) and Siyathula Ngubane (16) were sleeping when they were attacked in Snathing at about 2 am.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joey Jeevan said two other men were still watching TV when a group of armed men, who were wearing balaclavas, came into the house.

It is not clear what happened to the other two.

“At the scene police found the bodies of two adult males lying on the floor inside the house. They both sustained single gunshot wounds to the head,” said Jeevan.

She said the men stormed into the house and dragged Mkhize and Ngubane out of bed and into the lounge.

“The men accused both victims of robbing people in the area. It is believed that the men thereafter shot both victims in the head and fled from the scene,” she said.

No arrests have been made and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Jeevan appealed to anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects to contact Captain Mandla Mkhabela of Plessislaer Police Station at 033 398 9779 or 079 845 5166 or Crime Stop on the Toll free number 08600 10111.
