Edendale ward flooded

2012-04-26 00:00

PATIENTS in an Edendale Hospital ward were left lying in their beds unfed after it was flooded last night.

When The Witness arrived at ward 5B1 on the fifth floor yesterday evening, the entire ward, and the passage leading up to the lifts — which were not working — had been flooded, and blankets had been placed at the entrance.

Cleaning staff said the cause of the overflow of water had been a burst geyser.

“No one is helping the patients,” said a visitor who did not want to be named.

She said that none of the patients had been fed since the leak began.

“They didn’t give a reason as to why the patients hadn’t been fed. This is not fair on them.”

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health was unavailable for comment last night.
