Egoli: 18 commemorative episodes begin tonight

2010-03-03 00:00

JOHANNESBURG — Fans who said goodbye to Egoli with heavy hearts last night have reason to cheer up. Last night’s episode was indeed the final one, but it’s not quite the end yet.

Eighteen special commemorative episodes will start tonight, says line producer Burgert Müller. “It isn’t really goodbye,” says Müller.

The commemorative episodes are not reruns of old episodes. “It’s a series of highlights presented by actors.”

Last night’s episode brought an end to a series that spanned 18 years and consisted of 4 690 episodes (including the commemorative episodes) or 112 608 minutes of Egoli.

Actor Shaleen Surtie-Richards (54), who played Nenna, said the finality only really hit her yesterday.

“When I heard people saying how they’ve been watching Egoli from day one, it made me sad. We had so many highlights. It’s been 18 years after all, and that’s a lot.”

Müller said the commemorative series contains interviews with present and former Egoli actors, as well as behind-the-scenes material.

The commemorative series, which will be broadcast in the usual Egoli slot (6.30 pm), will finish on March 26.
