Eight Criminals on the loose

2011-03-18 00:00

POLICE warn that the eight awaiting trial accused that escaped from a northern KZN police station on Wednesday evening, are armed and dangerous and should not be approached.

With charges including murder, rape and armed robbery the escapees overpowered two police officers, took their keys, stole three Z88 9mm (police issue) firearms and removed money from the safe before leaving through the front door of the SAPS eSikhawini holding cells, south of Richards Bay.

According to SAPS Empangeni cluster spokesman, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, there are still questions remaining on how exactly the suspects overpowered the officers.

“We urge the public to notify the police if they see any of the suspects as they are armed and dangerous,” said Mdlalose.

The accused Siboniso Mdletse (28) and Sithembiso Mdletse (25) both face the same charge of armed robbery with aggravating circumstances; Sibonelo Mpanza (20) and Sibusiso Zulu (21) both face charges of murder; Nduduzo Mnguni (29) faces a charge of rape and Boyi Mlungwana (31) and Bheki Mazibuko (19) face separate charges of robbery.

The three officers were on duty at the holding facility, a short distance from the eSikhawini police station, however the third officer was on patrol.

If you have any information on the suspects whereabouts call your nearest police station or 0800 10111.
